HOLY! I can't wait to see Coga's reaction.
I actually don't mind this to be honest, Yes Colorado got a huge over payment, but we got our #1C and didn't give up Chabot, White or anyone we didn't want too. Only down side I see here for Ottawa is losing Turris (Which we might have anyways) and Shane Bowers was looking to be a good player but time will tell.
So what are the top 6 lines now?
I'd go with...
Hoffman -Duchene - Ryan
Smith - Brassard - Stone |

Boucher wanted Duchene. He has been pretty good so far in knowing what he needs to get better. Be interesting to see dynamic with Karlsson. |

Its a bigger package than I thought it was going to be, but thats bc the level of prospects are good not Top.
Girard is a very good D prospect, Kamenev has been very impressive in the AHL and should be an NHL very soon, Bowers is a long term investment and they don't have to rush him, 2019-20 timeline.
Toss in a 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, 3rd rounder, and probably a salary dump in Hammond who they might be able to turn into a small asset as a depth guy at a trade deadline.
I hoped for the Chabot/Hanifin 1 for 1 deal. But 7 assets and being good ones, cant really be upset at that return fo ra guy who requested a trade last Christmas, wasn't liked in the locker room (apparently there was major friction there) and had no future with the Team |

Ottawa overpaid for Duchene. Predators is the winner short term. Avs did awesomely good long term. Sakic couldn't get the top dmen desired as no NHL teams were willing to trade. So he went for plan B. Let's face it, Colorado would have lost him in a season and a half. So getting 7 players for him is remarkable. |

Bowers is a meh prospect, Hammond is a cap dump, the 3rd is whatever, Turris wanted a lot of term and I'm glad we didn't give it to him. He hasn't played well after getting injured in that NYI game last season. The only part that could suck is the 1st but who knows how that ends up.
Duchene will score a lot with Karlsson on his team.
Okay trade, Ottawa still needs one more top-6 winger.
Preferably someone like James Neal. |

I'd be curious to see what Stone can do with Duchene. He might be capable of even more with a center like duchene. |

I was thinking the same thing but Stone works so well with Brassard. Plus the speed of a line with Hoffman and Duchene will be crazy |

The battle to replace Heatley and Spezza, continues... |

So it's basically pre-UFA Turris, Bowers, a 1st and a 3rd round pick, for Duchene and $1.5M (Hammond). I'm sure Sakic was holding out as long as he could for one of Chabot, White, or Brown to be included, but at the end of the day he got quite a lot of value in the aggregate. Meanwhile, Nashville adds quality centre depth without having to play the UFA or trade deadline game.
Conventional logic suggests that the team with the best player when the dust settles wins the trade (i.e. Duchene), but you could probably make the argument that all 3 teams came out with good value given their relative situations. The real deciding factor will hinge on whether Duchene can be signed long-term.
Personally, I think what we're seeing is Dorion trying to consolidate the team's core talent before long-term contracts are issued... where the teams's vault is opened to fund long-term extensions in 2 years' time for Karlsson, Stone, and Duchene as the team's #1D, #1W, and #1C. From there you'll likely see some combination of Brassard, Ceci, and Smith moved to clear more cap space, and then bridge contracts for the likes of Chabot, White, Brown, and other key prospects until the MacArthur ($4.7M), Phaneuf ($7.0M) and Ryan ($7.2M) deals expire in order over each of the next 3 years following the big Karlsson extension. |

If you actually watched his play, he's been off. 6 years of that is risky. |
